Affordable Mountain theme Playroom

Hi! This is Layna (Janelle’s twin) from Colorado. She gave me several ideas on paint colors and cost effective playroom items, so she asked me to share our playroom with you!

After our family room started to look like a toy factory we decided we wanted to give Grayson another space to play. Thus, the playroom idea was formed! Of course my first stop was spending countless hours (and by hours I mean one), pinning ideas on Pinterest. I wanted to do a mountain mural, but not have it be very realistic, more just the outlines of the peaks. There were plenty of pins that gave step by step directions on how to tape the mountains. Thankful my dad is a retired painter. He taught us several tricks to be able to have super crisp lines. After he painted the top half of the room, Dave (hubby) and I spent the night taping and re taping the lines until we had the mountain scene we liked. Then my dad came back the next day and painted the bottom half and did touch ups. After the painting was finished we added a new rustic ceiling fan, new curtains, shelves, cloud stickers, and the toy shelf. We painted the IKEA spice racks (books shelves) to match the walls. The projects look longer than excepted (hello… life with a one year old), but the finished product was well worth it! It is now a space where Grayson loves to play and we enjoy spending time in as a family.
My favorite part is having time to just play with Gray without the distraction of dishes or laundry. And anyone with a toddler knows having different spaces around the house to play in are great when kids need a change of scenery.

Grayson recently has found a love of reading! He will sit in contently his chair and turn the pages of his books. However, he just started to bring us books to read to him as he backs up to sit in our laps. It is adorable!

I was inspired by reading some information on Montessori play to keep one item/bin of toys on each shelf. That way he doesn’t get overwhelmed and actually “plays” more. I used stickers from Hobby Lobby to label some of the bins. It also makes clean up a breeze because everything has its own space. I keep his other toys in the closet and switch them out every week.

I am so excited to use this measuring stick to see how fast he is growing! I saw several ideas on Pinterest on how to use reclaimed wood to make your own, but it was half off at Hobby Lobby which made it more cost effective than a DYI.

This fan! Thank you Home Depot! I love the rustic aspects of this ceiling fan. Of course Grayson LOVES playing with the remote and dimmer.  And huge props to the hubby who has now almost put a fan in every room upstairs!

I love cute wall art and knick knacks, but keeping them out of reach of baby was important too. I love how the shelf is large enough to hold lots of decorative items. Bonus…somewhere to put my phone and drink out of sight and hands of baby.
Hobby Lobby Items-

And of course in the non-perfect social media world- this is what the playroom usually looks like!

AEO isn't just for kids says this 35 year old

Yes walking into an American Eagle will give you a rush or old memories of high school, the cute worker boys, the loud music, and surprisingly some of the same style but don't be fooled you can STILL find super cute stuff here!!!! The quality for the price is also pretty good you just have to know what to look for!
My 5 favorite winter items from American Eagle right now

1. Denim.
AEO makes some awesome jeans just remember not to feel bad about yourself if you have to size up...hello junior sizes.  The high waist stretch jeans are heaven and for all the tall girls out there hello extra LONG! Yay i can finally cuff a pair of jeans

2. Trendy item that's not THAT TRENDY
This sweet olive green bomber jacket is perfect! Cute quilting on the sleeves and stretch at bottom make it feel and look more expensive then it is! Extra bonus its super WARM.

3. Winter accessories
This hat and scarf were both steals and I have gotten so many compliments on them and bonus the are made pretty well and will last a few seasons!

4. Cozy sweater
This lace up gray sweater has held up now though 4 or 5 washes and still looks great!
Plus it even made it though a round in the dryer opps and didn't shrink. Holla.

Target Dollar Spot: Holiday bar cart makeover

I like most individuals treat Target as a sanctuary and as soon as I enter my happy place right past the carts is a little slice of heaven known as the Dollar Spot. Like most  I tend to randomly throw a few items in my cart with no real plan for them! Well this time I wanted to use items from the section to decorate my bar cart for the holidays!
My total was under $35!!!!
Items include:
Greenery garland $3
Wooden Tree Garland $5
Tea Towels $3
4 Wooden coasters with tree detail $3
Wooden Snowflake Battery operated lights $5
Tree drink sticks $3
mini lights $1.50
Command strips $5

First I added the greenery garland to cart. It was super easy to use and I was able to cut it to make it easier to weave through.
I also had a little left I added to bottom of glasses bonus.

Next I added the snowflake lights to the top of cart!I love how these look light up and for $5 bucks so worth it!

I can never pass up a cute garland and these little wooden trees had my heart. I love the  red/black pattern and that they can use to move along string and they come with the loops on the end to make them really simple to hang.

Next to add some inexpensive bar cart accessories. Little tree stir sticks and wooden coasters were perfect! Also some hand towels always come in handy when mixing drinks!

For the final bit of flare I used sting lights and command strips to add a little tree to wall behind my cart! Hope you all enjoy my holiday cart on the cheap!

Shine shine shine: Metallics, whites and grays

I like most ladies love anything shiny!!! This vest was the first thing I scooped up in my frantic 30 min old navy shopping spree pre back friday when they had 50% off for card holders! To be honest I probably own way way way too many +Old Navy vests but I thought why not get another! I was also on the look out for some ripped up denim and loved this pair in white perfect for winter and also worth it because they are so versatile for spring as well! A boyfriend flannel for $13 and a warm headband with some sparkle finish off the look!!! BTW the booties love love love and they are comfortable like for real I wore them to a photoshoot!!!!!!
Links to buy below...everything is still on sale and under $40!
